Went to the grand opening of the in Assouline store at South Coast Plaza to view theirexquisite collection. I was looking at the Chanel book set when the salesperson approached me to show me the Luxe collection produced exclusively for Assouline stores by Chanel. The three book set was made with a metal Chanel logo on top of a signature black quilted slipcase with red interior.

The book set focused on Gabrielle Coco's styles of Chanel Fashion, Fine Jewelry, and Perfume.

Very attractive piece. Priced at $550.00.

Last Minute Fashionista Halloween

Thinking of what to be for Halloween, but don't want the typical costume you can find online or at stores that millions of other females will have?  Be a fashionista for Halloween and still be able to use your costume after Halloween is over.  It will be the most practical and most worn costume you have ever owned.  Not to mention stylish and creative!

1. Wig - Try to go to Goodwill, Vintage Store or Wig Store
2. Sunglasses -  Any big dark sunglasses will work - (Target, Forever 21, Cart at mall)
3. Black Pea Coat - I'm sure you already have one in your closet, but check Forever 21 - $32.80.
4. Scarf - I know many of you living in Southern California find it useless to have a scarf because it never really gets that cold here, but I'm SURE most of you do for trend.  Regardless of whether you have one or not, go to Urban Outfitters - $28 and grab one.

Interview: Jeannie Mai of Style Network's 'How do I Look?'

I was very blessed and fortunate to interview Jeannie Mai, best known for her work as the host of Style Network's How do I Look? and correspondent on NBC's Extra TV.  I chose to contact Jeannie not only because she is a beautiful fashion stylist, American makeup artist, fashion expert, and TV personality.  On top of her multitude of talents, I wanted everyone to recognize her for the confidence she gives to other women making them feel comfortable in their own skin. 

SV:  How did the love of fashion develop for you? 
JM:  It came and continues to come every single time I see someone stand a lil straighter from looking fly in the mirror. I love swagger, love the way a color or texture can bring out the beautiful features we all have.

SV:  What did you want to be when you were younger? 

JM: I have always, always wanted people to feel recognized. 

SV:  Were you always this stylish?
JM:  Heck to the no. I certainly learned what worked best for my body, but at the same time to be comfortable in my own skin. 

SV:  What other jobs did you work prior to being the host of How do I look?

JM:  Well let's see.. I've been a server at TGIF, an office admin (UGH.. I never wish fluorescent lighting anybody), and a makeup artist.

SV:  How did you land a job on How do I look? 

JM:  I was approached by Style Network for a few shows prior to HDIL, and they saw my passion for pretty. I heart them. 

SV:  What would your best fashion tip be?

JM:  Use fashion to brand who you are. Make yourself stand out through your looks- nobody else has em! Whether it be a color you wear often or a trade mark style touches from a certain era, own it.

SV:  What is the one store you recommend for women in their late 20s, early 30s to shop? 

JM:  Topshop, Bloomingdales, ASOS ONLINE!! I'm obsessed with that last one.

SV:  I think the idea of your prayer box is amazing. It really touched me.  How did you come up with this idea?

JM:  I like to see faith in action. I think we all need to see to believe. When you watch people putting lil pockets of hope into the box, and you read words written from a stranger, it fills your own hope you need, too.

SV:  I understand that you are a big foodie. What is your all time favorite to go to food? 

JM:  Sweet potato fries. I'm always on the hunt for skinny, crunchy, with uber sauces. I need to stop eating them or I won't fit in my dang pencil skirts anymore

SV:  You inspire a lot of fashionistas, especially me. What advice would you give for someone that wants to be where you are today?

JM:  First off, I return the appreciation because people like you make me do what I want to do. So thank you Vivian. For your own path, how bad do you want it? Find what it is that gives you reason to go through all the wonderful hurdles that it takes to accomplish your calling. Make it your mission statement, and commit to making it FUN for yourself as it is for others to receive what you bring. And finally, finish every single night with a way you can be better and start the next morning with a word of thanks.

Interview: The Hive

The Hive, a fashion boutique located at the Lab in Costa Mesa.  Spotted this boutique when I went to Buffalo Exchange to find some vintage shorts.  Trying to kill time, I walked around the Lab and noticed the Hive.  From the window displays, the first perception of this place was intriguing and "expensive".  I went in and started to look through their collection noticing the prices were extremely reasonable.  Dresses for $40!  So, I decided to continue my journey through the entire store and found new discoveries. The Hive gets my vote for top 3 boutiques in Orange County.

The Hive left such a great impression on me, I decided to contact the owner for an interview.

VK:  What are your full names?

DO: My brother Diego Ortiz (President) and my name is Jose Luis Ortiz (CFO).

VK:  Is this your 1st clothing store?

DO:  Yes for the moment.

VK:  How did you get started into the fashion industry and when?

DO:  I worked in a fashion boutique around 5 years ago and I liked the business.

VK:  Are you also a designer and if so what inspires you to design this type of clothing?

DO:  We have a team creating new shapes, play with colors, balance, time, feelings, and history.

VK:  What can I find at this store? 

DO:  You can buy the displays, furniture, lamps.  Each one has a history.  For example, one is handmade from India.  They don't repeat the same design. The details, color, dimensions are changed.  Each item is our identity.

VK:  Besides being a clothing store owner, is there anything else you are doing?

DO:  I'm a Graphic Designer too.  The advertisements, displays, shapes, and colors are familiar with me.  My brother Diego does the International Relations.

VK:  What made you decide to open this store and why at the Lab?

DO:  The Lab is anti-mall delight, uniqueness, fashion, art, and identity.

VK:  Do you hold events at your store?

DO:  Fashion Shows and OC Events.  You can find our events at www.sobeca.net.

VK:  What can we expect in the future?

DO:  Open more stores, keeping the style and atmosphere.

Harness Tee

This is what I mean by fashion.  You can pretty much put anything on and make up your own look.  Topshop has a harness tee by Unique. Basically you take a regular tee that cost $5 and put a harness on it to make it worth $100 just because its unique.  Meaning you will be that "cool" gal to be the 1st to wear it.  Hey what can I say, it's creative. I'm all forth it.  Would I pay $100 for it? Not a chance. But I'm sure a lot of fashion forwards would.

Minimizing and still stylish...

I went on a Royal Caribbean International "Oasis of the Sea" cruise to the Western Caribbean last week with my boyfriend's family.  Excellent cruise. Best Ever. Amazing fashion on the cruise from people all over the world.

So let's get to the point. My luggage never made it to my stateroom, so I had to work with the limited amount of clothes I had with absolutely no accessories.  You all know in the fashion world, not having any accessories is like not having a bra with your outfit. I realized that I never even had to pack some of the clothes I had in the other luggage and could have minimized space.  Sometimes its better not to have a huge selection of clothes to wear because you don't have to stress about which one to wear. 

Here is what you need to minimize your bag and still look CUTE:

1. 1 pair of high waisted shorts


Reason: You can wear any tank over it during the day to walk around in the hot weather to build a casual summer look, but also wear it at night to attend shows or to dance in.  Serves the purpose for 2 occasions.  Try Arden B and Bebe. If they are out of season, go to Buffalo Exchange or any vintage store.

2. 2 basic tank tops (Black & White)

Reason: Same as number one.

3. 2 formal dresses for 2 formal nights 

Reason: There is no minimizing and wearing the same dress during formal night. Lets remember to not be tackalicious.  Just try to find 2 dresses that match the one pair of formal shoes you are wearing. Try solid colors

4. 1 pair of heels that match both your dresses

Reason: You have other shoes you need to pack. One shoe is enough. Okay, so you don't have to wear MB's but you get the idea. Try Steve Madden, Aldo, or Nine West..

5. 1 necklace/bracelet set to match formal wear 

Reason: You need accessories even if your dress is loud. Even if its just stud earrings. I'll let you decide on which ones. Try Forever 21, Banana Republic, Express.

6. Bathing Suit (1 or 2 depending on how much you go into the water)

Reason: Just in case one gets filthy. Cute bathing suits at Victoria Secret or Target.

7. Cover up for Bathing Suit 

Reason: While you're sitting on the lounge chair in your bathing suit, you can be looking classy and fabulous as well just by putting a cute cover up on. Try Target, Ebay, Amazon, or any beach store of course.

8. 1 pair of Sandals

Reason: Obvious! You're on a cruise. Preferably Brown. Anywhere!

9. 1 Cute Summer Hat 

Reason: Duh ! You gotta block your face from to much sun exposure sometimes and besides it's stylish! H&M, Forever 21, Target.

10. 1 pair of Sunglasses

Reason: If you have sensitive eyes like me, you'll regret not bringing them. The sun is scorching. It's summer and the suns out, wear em.

11. 1 pair of boots

Reason: They are cute any season and comfortable! Wear them only at night on the cruise ship for shows, to gamble or dance! I don't care if its summer time. Wear them with your high waisted shorts with leggings.

Although summer is over, the weather is still like summer when you're in the Caribbeans!

Wardrobe Fashion Event with 80's Purple

On August 27th, Apartment 3 + MFG presented Wardrobe fashion event with 80's Purple at the LAB in Orange County.  The same creative crew DRESS RIGHT in LA bought together the show with great music by DJ Pube$ and Wendy City mixing through the night.  Guest who arrived received 15% off at Urban Outfitters, Buffalo Exchange, Treasury Department, Blends, the Hive, and Troy Lee at the Lab. On top of participating in the shopping fun came an OPEN BAR and hors d'oeuvre all night!  Runway shows by Treasury Department, Troy Lee Designs, Buffalo Exchange, The Hive, Blends and none other than 80's Purple.  The collaboration of different OC based stores join together to put on a fabulous fashion show.
